Insulation & Air Sealing Services

Looking to reduce your energy bills and make your home more comfortable year-round? Green Homeowners United specializes in expert insulation and air sealing services that help Southeastern Wisconsin homeowners fight back against drafts, leaks, and heat loss—especially during those cold Midwest winters.

Our approach always starts with a Home Energy Assessment, where we identify the most cost-effective upgrades for your home. But even if you choose to skip the assessment, we can still provide targeted insulation solutions to improve your comfort and energy efficiency—while helping you qualify for Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) rebates and incentives.

Basement Insulation: Stop Energy Loss at the Source

IMG_0545.HEIC

Did you know up to 30% of your home’s energy loss can come from uninsulated basement walls? Concrete and cinder blocks are about as insulating as a single-pane window. That’s why insulating your basement is one of the smartest upgrades you can make.

Spray Foam – Rim Joist Insulation

The rim joist—the area between your basement walls and first floor—is the second leakiest place in most homes. Especially in homes built before 2010, this area often lacks proper insulation.

We apply about 2 inches of spray foam insulation to seal these critical gaps, stopping heat loss, reducing drafts, and helping your basement feel warmer in winter and less humid in summer.

  • Meets building code

  • Helps eliminate drafts

  • Qualifies for IRA rebates

Rigid Foam Board – Basement Wall Insulation

We use fire-safe white rigid foam insulation that can be left exposed and still provide a clean, finished appearance. This is a great solution for insulating your basement without the expense of full drywalling.

Pros:

  • Quick installation

  • Mold- and moisture-resistant

  • Looks like drywall, can be painted

  • Great for semi-finished or unfinished spaces

Cons:

  • Must be custom-cut around obstacles

  • Requires a specific primer if painting

Spray Foam + Framing – For Finished Basements

For homeowners looking to fully finish their basement, we offer a framing and spray foam combo. This method is ideal for older homes with uneven walls, such as fieldstone or brick.

Pros:

  • Best insulation and air sealing

  • Clean, finished look

  • Ideal for converting to a living space

Cons:

  • Longer install time

  • Requires drywall to meet fire code

  • Ventilation needed for 24 hours post-install

Attic Insulation: Keep the Heat Where It Belongs

9 out of 10 homes built before 2010 don’t have the 16 inches of attic insulation required by the U.S. Department of Energy. That means one thing: your heat is escaping—fast.

Attic Gap Sealing

Before adding any insulation, we seal attic gaps around chimneys, soffits, drop ceilings, and more. These gaps might look small, but they can lead to major energy waste and even let pests in.

Blown-In Insulation – Attic Floors

Using specialized equipment, we can blow in fiberglass or cellulose insulation evenly across your attic floor to reach the required R-value. This helps regulate indoor temperatures and lowers your heating and cooling costs.
